What is the cost of an electronic design custom?
The minimum hardware design cost is on average 1,000 Euros. Simple software costs an average of 1,800 Euros. The highly complex electronic board design costs 25,000 euros. A complex electronic board may include high-accuracy analogue measurements, a data logger, wireless communications, and complex input/output functions.
The costs of designing electronic boards include various activities, not only of a strictly technical nature. The main costs are essentially linked to HARDWARE and SOFTWARE development costs. The cost of the electronic board is a completely different story. You can find some examples in this LINK
SOME EXAMPLES OF COSTS
If the design of the electronic board involves studies, complex research, and complete approvals of third-party certifications, the cost will reach tens of thousands of euros. Below are examples of boards created with development costs.
ELECTRONIC BOARD HARDWARE DEVELOPMENT COSTS
We give an overview of the tasks covered by the hardware design costs before going on to the visual examples.
- General analysis of the product from a physical point of view.
- Drafting of a project draft
- Market research of similar products
- Study and research of special components
- Purchase and verification of special components
- Product cost analysis
- Creation of the electrical diagram
- Production of prototypes
- Printed circuit design
- Programming of robots for SMD assembly
- Manual assembly costs
- Laboratory performance costs
- Costs of experimental tests
- Tooling costs for the production of printed circuits
- Consumables
- Field support for trials and testing.
SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT COST
Before moving on to the visual examples, we summarise the activities included in the software design costs.
- General analysis of the product from a functional point of view
- Drafting of a block diagram of the main functions
- Market research of similar products to optimize functions
- Study and research of an adequate processor given possible expansions
- Creation of computer simulation software
- Entering the software into the microcontroller
- Laboratory tests and simulations
- Error shooting
- Software testing and modifications until customer approval.
DO YOU WANT TO UPDATE THE COST OF YOUR ELECTRONIC BOARD?
The COVID-19 pandemic has completely upended the world market for electronic components. It appears that things have returned to somewhat normal. Nevertheless, some customers still purchase components at exorbitant costs even though overall prices have decreased by 50%. We can offer guidance on cost audits that are updated, if that is your intention open the page

ELECTRONIC MANUFACTURING SERVICES
BLUETOOTH-BASED 3D MAGNETOMETER
This device finds application in robots. The electronic board interfaces with an embedded 3d magnetometer based on MEM technology.
HAND-MADE PROTOTYPE PICTURE
After making accurate calculations, the MCU sends the data about the magnetic field via Bluetooth to an AI-based computer.
Microcontroller: 32 BIT MCU
Dimensions: 80mm X 40mm
HARDWARE design costs: €2350 / SOFTWARE: €8400
Project execution time: 90 days
INSTRUMENTATION ELECTRONIC BOARD EXAMPLE
Description: small card for analogue signal acquisition and signal conversion. Data are stored in a flash memory. The oversampling technique is used to get a 14-bit resolution (native 10-bit AD). It features 16 analogue channels that interface with a K-type thermocouple.

Microcontroller: PIC18F66K4O
Dimensions: 90mm X 40mm
HARDWARE design costs: €2350 / SOFTWARE: €2400
SOLAR PANEL ELECTRONIC CONTROLLER EXAMPLE
This electronic board manages the automatic switching of solar panels and the automatic management of a system with 12 solar panels. The system shares an inverter producing electricity from biogas. The board features high-impedance sample-and-hold circuits capable of interfacing 600Vdc solar panels. A supercapacitor holds the data in case of power failure.

Total Components Count: 69
Processor type PIC18326MCU 8 BIT
Dimensions:280mm x 320mm
HARDWARE: €2350 / SOFTWARE: €3800
Project execution time: 40 days
ENCRYPTED COMMUNICATION ELECTRONIC BOARD
The purpose of this device is to encrypt phone calls. The signal processor 'chops' the audio streams in coded packets. Bluetooth module. Following a proprietary algorithm, the receiver puts the audio packet in the correct order.
HAND-MADE PROTOTYPE PICTURE
The transmission is still voice-based communication, But without decoding nobody can understand the content of the audio. In other words, this module translates the input language into an unknown language. Only the receiver can convert the audio into the original data stream. The receiver introduces only a 5% distortion. This will make the audio fully understandable.
Total Components Count: 72
Microcontroller: reserved information
Dimensions: minimum 20mm x 12mm, maximum 50mm x 50mm
HARDWARE design costs: €1500 SOFTWARE COST: 22.000 € (APPs excluded)
Project execution time: 180 days
OLED, LCD AND TFT DISPLAY INTERFACE DESIGN COSTS
Managing the displays is relatively simple from a hardware point of view. The costs are around a few hundred euros. However, graphics management of displays is very expensive, especially for applications that require control of individual pixels. For instrumentation applications, for example, the design of an interface for a measuring instrument with a real-time oscilloscope function (as in the image shown) can reach 8,000 euros.
Hardware costs increase considerably for applications with an extended temperature range (-30/+70). The design presents considerable difficulties. An alternative is to use video cards and programs with high-level language. This is not our specialization. We develop applications managed by microcontrollers.
